Inclusive Practices to Support All Learners

“Thirty years of research shows us that when students with varied learning and support needs learn together, they experience better academic and behavioral outcomes, social relationships, high school graduation rates, and post-school success” (SWIFT, 2017, p. 1). Inclusive education promotes a belief in shared responsibility and equitable access to a strong core curriculum with high-quality instruction benefiting all students. Differentiation, the framework of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and the use of High Leverage Practices (HLP) will be explored to ensure access to Tier 1 instruction and to promote student success in inclusive environments.

Systematic Approach to Positive Student Behavior

Student behavior, positively or negatively, affects the academic outcomes and safety in every school. Highly effective schools thoughtfully design their environments to promote student success and minimize negative behaviors. In doing so, they create a culture of high expectations, high levels of support, and better outcomes for all students. This session provides a structured, commonsense approach for developing a comprehensive schoolwide behavioral framework focused on student success. Participants will be challenged to consider their own school practices and develop actionable plans for improved student behavior..
